Why H.E.R.?
Housing alone isn't enough.
Women need support, encouragement, education, trusted resources, and a strong community to achieve lasting stability.
About H.E.R.

That realization inspired the creation of H.E.R.
H.E.R. was founded on the belief that every woman deserves the opportunity to heal, rebuild, and create a brighter future. The organization provides safe, supportive transitional housing while helping women access a network of supportive services and community resources that promote personal growth, emotional wellness, life skills, financial stability, and long-term independence.
As the organization continues to grow, Glynis' vision extends beyond housing alone. Through H.E.R.'s expanding initiatives—including wellness programs, empowerment opportunities, reentry support, and educational resources—along with strong partnerships with trusted community organizations, she is building a comprehensive network of support that addresses the whole person, not just the immediate need for housing.
Launching H.E.R. has brought its share of challenges, from securing funding and developing community partnerships to increasing awareness and building a sustainable foundation. Yet every obstacle has strengthened Glynis' commitment to the mission and reinforced her belief that lasting change happens when communities come together to support one another.
Today, H.E.R. stands as a reflection of Glynis' lifelong commitment to serving others. Her hope is that every woman who walks through H.E.R.'s doors leaves knowing she is valued, capable, and equipped to build a life filled with stability, confidence, and purpose.
Because restoration begins with hope—and every woman deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Meet Our Founder
For Glynis Neale Whitaker, helping others has never been just a career—it has been a calling. Throughout her life, she has been drawn to opportunities that allow her to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Her journey began by serving children as a therapeutic foster care parent, where she provided love, stability, and a safe home for youth who had experienced trauma and uncertainty. That experience deepened her understanding of the importance of compassion, resilience, and creating environments where people can heal.
Her passion for service later expanded to caring for seniors when she opened an assisted living facility dedicated to providing dignity, comfort, and quality care. As her desire to help families continued to grow, Glynis built a successful career in residential property management and real estate. Working closely with residents every day gave her a firsthand look at the challenges many individuals face in securing and maintaining stable housing.
It was through these experiences that she encountered women facing some of life's most difficult circumstances—including domestic violence, homelessness, financial hardship, reentry after incarceration, and other unexpected crises. She recognized that many women needed more than temporary shelter; they needed encouragement, resources, guidance, and a safe place where they could begin again.
H.E.R. serves as a bridge by connecting women with community partners, trusted referrals, educational opportunities, and support networks that help them overcome barriers and build a foundation for long-term success. Through collaboration and resource navigation, we empower women to access the services they need to thrive.
